Magnetic Property

AISI 440C (Martensitic) stainless steels can be hardened by heat treatment and therefore attract magnets. A bearing attracting a magnet does not mean it is not stainless. AISI 304 (Austenitic) does not attract magnets but cannot be hardened, so it cannot carry load; suitable only for corrosion resistance and low speeds.
